What Is EFT Tapping?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called tapping, is a mind-body and somatic practice that combines gentle acupoint tapping with focused awareness. EFT works with the nervous system, emotional memory, and the body’s stress response to support greater ease, clarity, and regulation.
By acknowledging thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations while tapping on specific meridian points, EFT sends signals of safety to the brain and body. This process can help reduce emotional intensity and allow the nervous system to settle—without needing to relive or analyze every detail of an experience.
EFT engages both cognitive awareness and the body’s somatic experience, and it supports the integration of emotional insight with nervous system regulation.
Potential Effects & Benefits
Clients experience EFT in different ways. Some of the commonly reported effects include:
• A sense of emotional relief or lightness, while being grounded
• Greater clarity or perspective around a situation
• Reduced emotional charge around memories or triggers
• Increased self-compassion and self-trust
• A feeling of calm, grounding, or nervous-system regulation
During or after a session, some clients notice a deeply relaxed or slightly somnolent state. This is a natural response as the body shifts out of stress and into rest, signaling a parasympathetic nervous system response. Somnolence is typically temporary and often experienced as soothing, integrative, and restorative.
EFT sessions are collaborative and the pace is based on your individual needs, boundaries, and lived experience.
